The aim is teaching the dog to be friendly and socially well-behaved, the best pet it can be.  To give each owner the skills to teach their dogs to enjoy behaving the way the owner would like each client is dealt with individually,  with reference to practically applying learning theory and emphasis on positive reinforcement.

I am often called in on a referral or second opinion basis where clients have already taken other advice.  I do need to know about previous advice you have been given, because some methods can cause unwanted side effects. I do not want to express negative comments about other advisors’ methods.  Where possible, I will be looking to the positive. It may be that together we can amend some things you have previously practiced to have better results. It is easier for me, as a trainer, to assess, unpick and redesign verbal or visual commands and cues you are already using than for you, a normal owner, to learn a whole new set of commands.

If your dog is …naughty…not listening…does not pay attention…not good on the lead…destructive…chewing…mouthing….. nipping …biting…not well-behaved in public…won’t do what he is told at home…out of control…won’t calm down, If your dog is…proactively or reactively aggressive…fearful…upset…lacks confidence . If your dog has, or may have been, previously taught using punitive methods, and there have been  behavioural side effects caused. If you have been advised your dog is dominant, or you need to “be his leader” or “show him who is boss” and the relationship between you has broken down. If you have been advised nothing can be done to improve your dog’s behaviour . If the police or dog warden have already knocked on the door…
